On Friday November 8th, the Lyndhurst Golden Bears honored our local veterans by asking them to participate in the opening ceremonies of their State playoff game against Pasack Hills. The participating veterans are members of our Veterans Alliance Colorguard, which is made up of local members of the Amvets Post 20, American Legion Post 139, VFW Post 3549 and Vietnam Veterans of American (VVA).
Legionnaires Michael Foglio and Scott Marshello donated two 100th anniversary coins to be used during the opening coin toss. The coins were then gifted to the head coaches of Lyndhurst and Pasack Hills. Pictured below you will see the referee explaining the significance of the coin to both teams before the
coin toss.

On Saturday, November 9th, the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) hosted their 4th annual Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) fundraiser at the American Legion. In support of a great cause, the American Legion family donated the location and services of the post home. This year the MDA fundraiser fell on Veterans Day weekend and during their opening remarks honored our veterans. Over the last four years, the American Legion's hospitality has amassed a sum of $2,000 to this great cause and will continue to support the NALC and MDA in the future.

Veterans Helping Veterans
As you may know, our local community is made up of veterans and their families but what you may not know is how some of them have found themselves needing to lean on the support of others. The Lyndhurst American Legion Family prides themselves on taking care of their own, whether that be a fellow veteran and their family or their local community. On Monday November 11th, we upheld the long-standing tradition of honoring our veterans but this year took it one step further and donated $1,000 in gift cards to cover groceries and other expenses to a local veteran family. This is just one example of how we give back to our local community throughout the year. To those who have asked how they can contribute or what can they do to give back to the American Legion, please send us an email at info@lyndhurstamericanlegion.com and we can help you get the ball rolling!

Birthday Card Donation for WW2 Vet's 102nd Birthday
Back in October, our webmaster & social media liaison, Sara Malkowski ran across a posting about a local World War II Veteran who is turning 102 on November 20th. Since he is so close, residing in Paramus, she was determined to make sure he got his birthday wish of receiving 102 birthday cards. A donation box was set up at the post and a total of 89 cards were collected. Thank you to all who participated and donated a birthday card! A special thanks goes out to Ms. Kristen Jiosi & the Lyndhurst Adult Services group, Mrs. Bri-Anne Estes & her 4th grade students at Roosevelt school AND to Mrs. Christina DeBellis and her Multiply Disabled 2-4 students at Thomas Jefferson School 9 in Garfield for the beautiful handmade cards! Sara wrapped up all the cards into a gift bag and dropped them off to Michael at the Care one facility in Paramus on Friday afternoon. Michael was very happy to receive our cards and told Sara he cannot wait to read all of the cards!
